August Safe2Tell reports prompt swift action to protect Colorado students
Sept. 9, 2025 (DENVER) — A report about bullying at school and another about harassment on social media are among the 1,789 reports submitted to Safe2Tell in August, according to the Colorado Attorney General’s Office’s monthly report released today (PDF). Both cases prompted swift intervention by school officials and, in one case, local law enforcement.
August marks the start of the 2025–2026 school year, with 1,789 reports submitted, a 150% increase from July’s 716 reports and consistent with typical seasonal patterns as students return to school.
“Each school year, young Coloradans show us how much they care about each other’s safety and well-being,” said Attorney General Phil Weiser. “Safe2Tell gives students and families a trusted way to raise concerns, and when they do, adults can step in to provide help and prevent harm.”
The August report highlights how Safe2Tell continues to play a critical role in connecting students to help and ensuring concerns are addressed before they escalate.
“These reports show the power of speaking up,” said Safe2Tell Director Stacey Scardino. “Whether the concern is bullying, online harassment, or threats of violence, Safe2Tell ensures the right people — school officials, law enforcement, and other professionals — can respond quickly. Every report creates an opportunity to intervene and protect students.”
In August, the most frequently reported concerns were school safety (15.6%), mental health (15.4%), bullying (14.3%), other (12.4%), and substance use (9.9%). Duplicate reports (15.8%) were the top type of reporting and is indicative of a healthy reporting culture. False reports represent a small share of submissions, with only 1.3% determined to be false so far this school year.
