The Specialized Business Group and Property Taxation Unit in the Revenue & Regulatory Law Section is seeking an attorney to join its dynamic and collaborative legal team. The Unit offers the opportunity to litigate and provide general counsel legal services in challenging areas of law that frequently present novel legal questions. Attorneys in the Unit address a wide variety of interesting and complex issues. The selected attorney will represent divisions of the Colorado Department of Revenue, including the Division of Motor Vehicles, and will have the opportunity to represent a diverse group of clients of the Unit. The Specialized Business Group and Property Taxation Unitis one of 10 units within the Revenue & Regulatory Law (R&R) section. The R&R section represents state regulatory agencies, including the Department of Regulatory Agencies, the Department of Revenue, and the Department of Agriculture.  R&R is the largest section in the Department of Law, comprised of approximately 110 team members who tackle a diverse array of legal challenges for nearly 100 state agencies, boards, commissions, and divisions. The work of the R&R section is critical to ensuring all licensees are providing fair services to Coloradans and protecting consumers through oversight of these industries and professions to protect public health and safety.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

The selected attorney will primarily represent the Motor Vehicle Division within the Department of Revenue, litigating administrative cases in hearings division, and handling appeals of administrative cases in the district courts and the Colorado Court of Appeals. The selected attorney will also assist the Motor Vehicle Division with general counsel and advice, interpreting relevant statutes and regulations and assisting with rulemaking matters. This attorney may also represent other clients of the unit, including the Divisions of Gaming and Sports Betting, the Division of Racing, the Auto Industry Division, the Colorado Lottery, the Colorado Property Tax Administrator and the Mobile Home Park Oversight Program in the Division of Housing. This is a fantastic opportunity for a team-oriented attorney who is eager to work in a multi-disciplinary group and who enjoys both litigation and providing general counsel advice.

• Be admitted to the Colorado bar or be clearly eligible to waive into the Colorado Bar and be in good standing at the time of application. Conditions of Employment:

• Applicants must pass a thorough background investigation prior to appointment.
