Description of Job:

This position provides administrative and legal support services for attorneys and legal assistants within the Natural Resources and Environment section.  The position effectively and efficiently performs general support activities, ensures that urgent matters are promptly referred to the appropriate attorney or legal assistant and creates and produces correspondence, legal documents and reports through the use of various MS Office applications. This position also proofreads documents and court filings, performs document management, archiving legal cases and projects and overseeing all scheduling of appointments and conference rooms.  As the support for all of the attorneys and  legal assistants in this unit, this position calendars attorney and legal assistant activities, determines information to be obtained from client agencies, and creates, maintains and closes files. This position may also perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications: Please document all relevant experience in detail on your application. Experience will not be inferred or assumed. Any part-time experience listed will be prorated.

Two years of experience providing administrative/ clerical support* in a professional office setting as the main function of your job. This experience must include experience monitoring and prioritizing high levels of incoming requests/correspondence and proficiency in MS Office, include Word and Excel.

  • Of the two years of experience, one year must include providing legal support experience. The legal support experience must include providing support with the litigation process, assembling documents and exhibits for pleadings/ court filings and organizing case files.

*Administrative/ clerical support includes filing, generating correspondence, creating forms used within an office, scheduling meetings for others, making travel arrangements, maintaining/ ordering office supplies, data entry, printing and copying documents for others, faxing, mail distribution, directing phone calls, etc.

Note: Candidates possessing a foreign degree must submit a translation (evaluation) of their degree from an accredited institution, such as The National Association of Credential Evaluations Services in order to be given credit for the degree.


An Associate's or Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in business, public administration, legal studies or closely related field may substitute for the general experience on a year-for-year basis. There is NO substitution for the one year of legal support experience providing support with the litigation process, assembling documents and exhibits for pleadings/ court filings and organizing case files.

Preferred Qualifications: In addition to the minimum qualifications, the preferred applicant will also demonstrate and clearly describe the following skills and experience in their job application:

  • Experience with the E-filing process;
  • Knowledge and understanding of water court/law, including experience utilizing water court/ law to complete assignments;
  • Experience working with document management systems, case management systems, and
    document review systems;
  • Experience working in a natural resource setting, especially in water rights law;
  • Experience using Sharepoint;
  • Experience with MS products;
  • Experience using ProLaw; and 
  • Strong technical acumen.
