Natural Resource Damages Definition

Damages to natural resources are defined as an injury to, destruction of or loss of the above mentioned natural resources. When a spill or release of contaminants into the environment results in injuries to natural resources, Natural Resource Damages (NRD) are sought from the party or parties legally responsible in order to restore, replace or acquire the equivalent of the injured natural resource. Damages are also sought for compensation for past and future lost services the injured resources would have provided had they not been injured.
