The Office of Community Engagement serves as liaison between the Colorado Department of Law and the two federally recognized tribes in Colorado, the Ute Mountain Ute Tribe and the Southern Ute Indian Tribe, and with Urban Indian organizations.

In September 2015, the Colorado Department of Law/Office of the Attorney General was accepted as an Ex-Oficio member of the Colorado Commission of Indian Affairs. The Commission coordinates intergovernmental dealings between tribal governments and state government in Colorado.
