Statement on the appointment of an independent investigator to investigate CDPHE whistleblower complaint

July 1, 2021 (DENVER) — Attorney General Phil Weiser released the following statement regarding the appointment of an independent investigator to investigate a CDPHE whistleblower complaint:

“After CDPHE’s Executive Director requested a thorough and independent assessment of claims submitted to the agency, the Colorado Attorney General’s Office has opened an independent investigation of allegations regarding alleged improper non-enforcement of air quality standards as alleged by certain Air Pollution Control Division staff at the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment. Through a competitive process, the Attorney General’s Office appointed attorneys at Troutman Pepper Hamilton Sanders LLP as special assistant attorneys general to conduct this investigation.”

“In order to maintain the impartiality and integrity of this ongoing investigation, we cannot comment further at this time.”
