Attorney General Weiser and law enforcement partners take down Denver-metro area drug ring, seize over 6.5 kilograms of illicit drugs

Sept. 1, 2026 (DENVER) – The statewide grand jury indicted six defendants on a total of 38 counts, each for a range of alleged drug distribution-related crimes in the Denver-metro area between October of 2025 and June of 2026, Attorney General Phil Weiser announced today.

“Keeping drugs out of our communities is one of my top priorities,” said Attorney General Weiser. “Seizures like this send the message that we will hold drug traffickers accountable for the dangers they bring to our state.”

According to the indictment filed on August 24, law enforcement surveilled, tracked, and apprehended various defendants between October 19, 2025, and June 11, 2026. Jorge Misael Cabello-Fernandez, Luis Plantilla-Alonso, Juan Carlos Nunez-Hernandez, Mauricio Castellon Aldrete, Juan Luis Rosales-Duran, and Jose Salvador Del Real Ruiz allegedly sold, purchased, or conspired to distribute illicit substances as part of a larger criminal enterprise.

With undercover operations, investigators were able to track the alleged sale of additional illicit drugs over time before securing a warrant to search an Aurora home believed to be the enterprise’s stash house for narcotics. During the execution of the search warrant, agents found over 4,360 grams of illicit drugs, according to the indictment.

During the entirety of this investigation, agents seized $57,002 in drug proceeds, and recovered:

  • Over 19,000 counterfeit M30 pills containing fentanyl (weighing over 2,150 grams)
  • Over 182 grams of fentanyl powder
  • Over 3,727 grams of methamphetamine
  • Over 279 grams of heroin
  • Over 210 grams of cocaine

Bank transfer wire receipts obtained during the investigation show that the enterprise sent profits to Jorge Misael Cabello-Fernandez in Mexico, the ringleader of this enterprise. Cabello-Fernandez is believed to currently reside in an area of Mexico associated with the Jalisco New Generation Cartel.

“The Drug Enforcement Administration appreciates the Attorney General’s office moving this case forward,” said DEA Rocky Mountain Field Division Acting Special Agent in Charge Miguel Chino. “Our agents and partners continue to be relentless in the pursuit of criminals who are pushing deadly fentanyl and other drugs in Colorado communities.”

The indicted counts include violation of the Colorado Organized Crime Control Act, racketeering and conspiracy, both class 2 felonies; possessing a controlled substance with the intent to distribute, a class 1 drug felony; distributing a controlled substance, a class 1 drug felony; and money laundering, a class 3 felony.

The case is being prosecuted by the Attorney General’s Special Prosecutions Unit in Adams County District Court. All defendants except Plantilla-Alonso and Cabello-Fernandez were originally arrested in Arapahoe County and are in the process of transferring to the Adams County jail. Plantilla-Alonso was arrested in Adams County, and Cabello-Fernandez remains in Mexico.

A grand jury indictment is a formal accusation that an individual committed a crime under Colorado laws. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
