The Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) Unit is looking for an experienced Curriculum Developer to join their team! This position is perfect for someone with a passion for a driven individual who wants to take on a project starting at the ground level. In this role, you will help support, improve, and elevate law enforcement throughout the state of Colorado through a critical new project to redesign law enforcement academy training. If you have strong communication skills and want to use your curriculum development experience to better law enforcement training at the State of Colorado, this position is for you!

This position is open only to residents of Colorado.

WHAT YOU WILL DO
This position will manage the curriculum redesign project. This work will include developing and managing project timelines, strategies, and resources to ensure successful curriculum development and implementation.   Organizing and reviewing collected curriculum materials and managing and liaising with subject matter experts (SMEs) and vendors are key components of this role.  This position will also play a key role in designing the curriculum itself including identifying learning objectives; developing and testing scenario-based training guides, lesson plans, and discussion materials; and ensuring the curriculum is consistent, comprehensive, and meets project goals and POST standards.  This position will need to ensure the entire curriculum is organized such that key mindsets and other topics build off one another, using a building block approach.   The work includes ensuring the curriculum utilizes best-in-class adult learning theory, is designed to increase critical thinking skills, and utilizes scenario-based learnings to emulate real situations the recruit will encounter in the field.  This position will help develop and implement the strategy for the piloting and roll-out of the curriculum.  After the academy redesign has been implemented, this position will work with subject matter experts to ensure the curriculum is effective and up to date. Any other duties as assigned.

Salary note: Although a salary range is listed, salary will be set commensurate with the successful candidate’s qualifications and in compliance with the Equal Pay for Equal Work Act. The salary range for this position will be $56,031-$85,000/ year after July 1, 2023 which will be paid on a biweekly basis. The current salary range through June 30, 2023 is $4,457-$6,300/ month.

This recruitment may be used to fill multiple positions in the Department of Law.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
 
Minimum Qualifications: Please document all relevant experience in detail on your application. Experience will not be inferred or assumed. Any part-time experience listed will be prorated. 

Six years of professional experience creating, developing, and assessing curriculum for adult-focused learning environments.

OR

Two years of professional experience creating, developing, and assessing curriculum for adult-focused learning environments AND a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in curriculum design, adult learning/education, criminal justice, communications, psychology, sociology, or a closely related field;

OR

A master’s or doctoral degree in adult learning/ education, criminal justice, communications, psychology, sociology, or a closely related field AND one year of experience creating, developing, and assessing curriculum for adult-focused learning environments trainings.

Note: Candidates possessing a foreign degree must submit a translation (evaluation) of their degree from an accredited institution, such as The National Association of Credential Evaluations Services in order to be given credit for the degree.

Preferred Qualifications: In addition to the minimum qualifications, the preferred applicant will also demonstrate and clearly describe the some or most of the following skills and experience in their job application:

  • Curriculum development in a law enforcement setting
  • Experience partnering with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to create curriculum
  • Experience managing teams, both internal and external
  • Experience and comfort with teaching within a class environment
  • Experience with creating curriculum for both in-persona and virtual/e-learning curriculum
  • Proficiency in MS Office programs such as Word and Excel
  • Proficiency in and experience working with Learning Management Systems and ELearning Authoring Tools (i.e. Lectora, Adobe Captivate)
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

Conditions of Employment:

  • Applicants must pass a thorough background investigation prior to appointment.
  • Requires statewide travel up to 40% of the time, including occasional overnight travel. Applicants must possess a valid Colorado Driver’s license.
