Find a rewarding career making a difference: Join the Office of the Attorney General!

The Agriculture Unit – composed of four attorneys with diverse backgrounds in pesticide law, farming, ranching, and food safety – is seeking an attorney to join its collaborative team to represent Colorado’s Department of Agriculture – an agency whose mission is to strengthen and advance Colorado agriculture; promote a safe and high-quality food supply; protect consumers; and foster responsible stewardship of the environment and natural resources. The Agriculture Unit represents the Department of Agriculture, its programs, and its boards and commissions, including litigating at the Office of Administrative Courts and in state and federal court; through the Department’s programs’ rule-making processes; and during the legislative session.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

This attorney will primarily represent the Department of Agriculture’s Bureau of Animal Protection and its Inspection and Consumer Services Division, including programs related to the regulation of commercial feed and fertilizer.  This attorney will litigate matters that require immediate action, including injunction hearings; show-cause hearings; and hearings to determine an owner’s fitness to own an animal after removal. This attorney will also provide general-counsel advice to the Department in relation to cease-and-desist orders, designing investigations, and rulemaking.  In addition to these responsibilities, this attorney will assist with general-counsel responsibilities and with litigating cases for other of the Department’s programs, including in the Office of Administrative Courts, state district courts, and federal courts.

The Department of Agriculture regulates agriculture and livestock matters in Colorado, including pesticide sale and use; plant health inspection and disease control; industrial hemp; livestock health, inspection, disease control, movement, and brand inspection; and marketing of agricultural products.
