WHO WE ARE
The Nursing & Professional Boards unit is one of seven units within the Business & Licensing section.   The Business & Licensing section represents state regulatory agencies, including the Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA), the Department of Agriculture, and the State Personnel Board.   Our DORA clients consist of programs and boards in DORA’s Divisions of Banking, Financial Services, Insurance, Professions and Occupations, Real Estate, and Securities.  The Board of Nursing is within the Division of Professions and Occupations, which licenses over 50 different professions, occupations, and industries statewide including: accountants; architects; banking; chiropractors; dentists; electricians; engineers; funeral homes; insurance and real estate agents; nurses; massage, occupational, physical, and respiratory therapists; pharmacists; physicians; plumbers; psychologists and professional counselors; ski lifts; and veterinarians. The work of the B&L Section is critical to ensuring all licensees are providing fair services to Coloradans and protecting consumers through oversight of these industries and professions to protect public health and safety.

WHAT YOU WILL DO
The Nursing & Professional Boards unit represents the state’s Board of Nursing; Plumbing and Electrical Boards; Accountancy Board; Board for Licensure of Architects, Professional Engineers, and Professional Land Surveyors; and other programs within the Business & Licensing section. This work promotes consumer protection through regulating, licensing, and taking disciplinary action against licensees and pursing litigation against unlicensed persons who engage in a regulated profession without a license.

The attorney’s responsibilities may include any of the following matters: Independently handle litigation, negotiation, administrative hearings, and appeals; Litigate matters that require immediate action including prosecuting license suspensions; Advising the Nursing Board’s Inquiry and Licensing Panels; Enforcement of the Nurse Practice Act against unauthorized persons through actions for injunctive relief in district court; Assisting other attorneys in the Nursing & Professional Boards Unit and in the Section.

The attorneys on our team represent our clients’ interests in a variety of settings, including administrative licensure and disciplinary actions. The position involves an administrative law practice before the Office of Administrative Courts, as well as some practice in District Court and the Court of Appeals. Additionally, our work involves advising clients in all aspects of its regulatory functions and responsibilities, including open meetings and open records laws and assisting with the promulgation of rules. This attorney’s primary role will be to serve as litigation counsel to the Board of Nursing. This is a fantastic opportunity for an attorney who is eager to work in a multi- disciplinary team and to do work that directly impacts the lives of Coloradans.

This recruitment may be used to fill multiple attorney positions in the Department of Law.
