Our Special Prosecutions team in the Criminal Justice section is hiring for a new Investigations Analyst position. This is a new position to the team and the person in this role will work closely with the Chief Investigator of Special Prosecutions to develop analytical solutions for the team. This includes supporting all investigators on collecting complicated criminal and intelligence information to develop hypotheses or inferences as it relates to investigations. Investigations analysts are great puzzle solvers and help create the “big picture” that moves an investigation forward. If you have a passion for law enforcement and want to apply your analytical skills to help solve a variety of crimes, this position is for you!

This position is open only to residents of Colorado.

WHAT YOU WILL DO
The Special Prosecutions Unit conducts criminal investigations and prosecutes diverse criminal offenses, such as auto theft, corruption related offenses, election crimes, environmental crimes, homicide, human trafficking, identity theft, narcotics trafficking, organized retail crime, and state tax fraud, as well as violations of the Colorado Organized Crime Control Act (COCCA). This unit also works with federal and international authorities to investigate violent crimes, and apprehended fugitives, detainees, and victims/witnesses needed for trial. This unit receives multiple referrals and evaluates them to determine if they warrant further investigation and criminal prosecution in state court. Often, the unit acts as the lead investigative agency gathering information from partnering law enforcement and regulatory agencies not limited to numerous local, state and federal agencies within the State of Colorado. This unit also receives completed or ongoing investigations from other law enforcement agencies for subsequent prosecution. This unit provides training and technical assistance to law enforcement agencies within the State of Colorado and, as requested, the Special Prosecutions staff will provide advanced training at a national level on certain topics.

The purpose of this position is to assist the Special Prosecutions Unit with analytical tasks related to criminal investigations. This position works in conjunction with criminal investigators, using data obtained during investigations, along with data from the internet, open source checks, the intelligence community, and other law enforcement and regulatory partners at the local, state, and federal level. Investigations analysts are great puzzle solvers and help create the “big picture” that moves an investigation forward. They work proactively to assess complex information and make real-time analytical judgments. They leverage contacts and information to prepare briefings, reports, and communications for criminal investigators and prosecutors. Tasks performed by an analyst free up criminal investigators to focus on conducting interviews, preparing affidavits, conducting surveillance, and other field work.

This position will work specifically on complex, multi-jurisdictional criminal matters, including violations of the Colorado Organized Crime Control Act (COCCA) and organized retail crime. Additionally, this position will work on investigative matters involving auto theft, corruption related offenses, election crimes, homicide, human trafficking, identity theft, state tax fraud, and other crimes appropriate for investigation and prosecution by the Special Prosecutions Unit.

Salary note:  Although a salary range is listed, salary will be set commensurate with the successful candidate’s qualifications and in compliance with the Equal Pay for Equal Work Act.

This recruitment may be used to fill multiple Analyst positions in the Criminal Justice section.
