The Technology and Privacy Protection Unit of the Consumer Protection Section is seeking an experienced attorney to join a hardworking and creative team of professionals protecting consumer rights in Colorado. Colorado is a leader in protecting consumers as technology evolves, recently enacting the Colorado Privacy Act (CPA) and Online Dating Safety Act as well as passing the Anti-Discrimination in AI Act. This position will help implement and enforce these and other laws related to data privacy, cybersecurity, and consumer technology, including through rulemaking and public education. The ideal candidate will have enforcement experience and a strong background or interest in privacy and cybersecurity. This position is a great opportunity to help expand the Technology and Privacy Protection Unit’s cybersecurity and privacy practice, and the successful candidate will help lead the Attorney General’s advocacy for the privacy rights of Coloradans.
Application will be reviewed and interviews will be conducted on a rolling basis. Interested parties are encouraged to apply as soon as possible.
The Technology and Privacy Protection Unit is dedicated to protecting Colorado consumers in the face of evolving technological changes and harms. In particular, the Unit enforces laws, drafts regulations, and supports department wide policy positions related to Colorado’s cybersecurity, consumer data privacy, and AI laws, as well as the application of the Colorado Consumer Protection Act to new technologies. The Unit also acts as a subject matter expert to support other sections and units when evolving technology or consumer data impacts broader matters.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
The Technology and Privacy Protection Unit is seeking a talented, enthusiastic, and experienced attorney with an enforcement background and a strong interest or background in privacy and cybersecurity to help build the Unit’s cybersecurity and privacy practice. Those efforts will be accomplished through investigation, litigation, rulemaking, and public education. This position will also participate in national efforts focused on cyber security, data protection, and privacy issues.
This attorney will have the opportunity to handle a caseload and independently conduct investigations and enforcement actions, while supervising paralegals and staff. Although the Technology and Privacy Protection Unit seeks self-driven and motivated applicants, the individual who will succeed in the position must be a team player who enjoys collaborating with colleagues to achieve the best results for Colorado consumers.
