The Department of Law (DOL) is seeking a detail-oriented Grants professional to join the new Granting and Partnerships unit in the Division of Community Engagement (DCE). In this role, you will partner with communities across Colorado to identify and provide funding for critical initiatives. As a member of this new team, you will participate in setting up granting processes and impacting the team’s direction from the start. WHAT YOU WILL DO
The Division of Community Engagement strives to be Coloradans’ open door to the Department of Law in the operation of five programs: Outreach and Engagement, Consumer Engagement and Data Services, Safe2Tell, Opioid Response, and Granting. This position, working with the other grants coordinator and the new Director of Granting and Partnerships, serves as the manager of assigned DCE grants and contracts (outside of the Opioid Response Unit’s grants). This position maintains ownership and oversight of assigned grants and contracts from beginning to end of the funding cycle. This position works with the rest of the Granting and Partnership team to improve the grant-making process, review new proposals and amendments, facilitate the development of grant agreements and amendments, create and maintain working relationships with partners, and monitor progress to ensure compliance.

This position is responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with community partners to plan and execute collaborative program efforts on a range of topics, as assigned by the Director consistent with Department priorities. This position is responsible for coordinating working groups and task forces to launch and coordinate statewide partnerships and programs.

Salary note:  Although a salary range is listed, salary will be set commensurate with the successful candidate’s qualifications and in compliance with the Equal Pay for Equal Work Act.

Salary ranges:
Grants Specialist II – $48,396- $66,000/ year
Grants Specialist III- $56,028- $75,000, FLSA exempt

This recruitment may be used to fill multiple Grant Specialist positions in the Department of Law.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
We are currently recruiting for a Granting professional at either the Grants Specialist II or Grants Specialist III level. Classification will be determined by the candidates experience and qualifications (minimum and preferred).

Minimum Qualifications: Please document all relevant experience in detail on your application. Experience will not be inferred or assumed. Any part-time experience listed will be prorated. 

For the Grants Specialist II position:
Five years of professional experience in one of the following areas:

  • Grant administration, including as the grant recipient organization or granting organization;  OR
  • Experience managing contracts or projects, including managing work plans, timelines, deliverables, and overseeing budgets

OR

A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in a field of study related to the assignment AND one (1) year of professional experience in one of the areas defined above.

OR

A master’s or doctoral degree in business administration, public administration, non-profit management or a field of study directly related to the assignment.

For the Grants Specialist III position:
Six years of professional experience in one of the following areas:

  • Grant administration, including as the grant recipient organization or granting organization;  OR
  • Experience managing contracts or projects, including managing work plans, timelines, deliverables, and overseeing budgets

OR

A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in a field of study related to the assignment AND two (2) years of professional experience in one of the areas defined above.

OR
A master’s or doctoral degree in business administration, public administration, non-profit management or a field of study directly related to the assignment AND one (1) year of professional experience in one of the areas defined above.

Note: Candidates possessing a foreign degree must submit a translation (evaluation) of their degree from an accredited institution, such as The National Association of Credential Evaluations Services in order to be given credit for the degree.

Preferred Qualifications: In addition to the minimum qualifications, if you possess any of the following specifically include the details on your application, as this information will be used to assess your qualifications and may be used to determine a top group of applicants.

  • Intermediate Excel skills, including the ability to maintain data integrity and reporting
  • Passion for public service and community engagement
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to interact with internal and external stakeholders

In addition to the qualifications above, at the Grants Specialist III level our ideal candidate would have most of the following:

  • Experience with State of Colorado grant administration and/or experience with State of Colorado procurement and fiscal processes
  • Experience developing, revising, and implementing granting processes
  • Demonstrated experience and ability to create and maintain relationships with diverse community partners
  • Experience with contract administration including experience drafting statements of work, project plans, and ensuring quality of outcomes
  • Experience with data management using a customer relationship management system such as Salesforce
  • Experience using or consulting on data management or data dashboarding platforms
  • Ability to review and analyze data to identify trends
  • Experience developing program evaluation processes, such as developing measures for reporting on program impact/ effectiveness
