Sign-On bonuses will be paid based on the following timeline:
$500.00 – Time of hire

WHAT YOU WILL DO
This position will work under the supervision of attorneys who provide legal services to the Energy Office, the Air Quality Control Commission, the Air Pollution Control Division, the Air Quality, Clean Fleet, and Community Access Enterprises, and the Office of Environmental Justice. This position will also support attorneys providing services to the Water Quality Control Division, the Water Quality Control Commission, the Wastewater Facility Operators Certification Board, the Colorado Circular Communities Enterprise, the Division of Environmental Health and Sustainability, and any other general legal services.

Duties include:
- Create and edit a variety of legal documents; ensure content is free of typographical, grammatical, and formatting errors and ensure text is supported by citations to record and/or law as necessary; ensure citation form is compliant.
- Assist unit attorneys and client with pleadings, discovery, testimony and hearing preparation.
- Maintain case files, including confidential and highly confidential document files.
- Review court orders, highlight requirements, and calculate and calendar deadlines including Outlook, Planner and Google Calendar.
- Prepare and issue subpoenas and direct process service; and prepare rule opinions.
- Identify steps in adjudicatory and rulemaking processes and calendars deadlines.
- Coordinate with attorneys, other paralegals, support staff, and clients on pleadings and testimony filed with the administrative bodies like the Public Utilities Commission and the Air and Water Quality Control Commissions; research bodies’ enabling legislation, procedural rules and orders as needed to address legal questions on request.
- Schedule and participate in meetings with case teams to discuss litigation plans, prepare pre-trial plans, identify and calendars deadlines; anticipate case issues and coordinate with case team to confirm issues; consult with case team on legal issues for research as well as fact issues and witness identification; work with case team on motions and discovery plan.
- Research legal issues and provide oral and written analysis.
- Draft basic motions, notices and related documentation; checks all citations for form and confirms authority supports points of law or fact.
- Arrange and attend depositions and meetings as requested by attorney; schedule hearings; identify and prepares exhibits and trial notebooks; develop and assist with demonstrative and electronic exhibit presentation; monitor incoming pleadings and orders and updates calendars accordingly.
- Calendar all rulemaking scheduling; review rulemaking package, prehearing statements, and rulemaking opinions for errors in form and content, ensuring all pleadings are correctly formatted, that citation form is correct and authority supports analysis; prepare final version for filing.
- Review records for privilege and prepare necessary privilege logs in support of responses to open record request and discovery requests; organizes responses to requests, calendaring deadlines, redacting documents and otherwise preparing work product for delivery to requesting party.
- Calendar all subpoena scheduling; review all motions to quash or protect witness; review documents and prepare final version for filing.
- Employ document/trial management software including Relativity, ProLaw, PowerPoint, and Trial Director.
This recruitment may be used to fill other Paralegal positions in the Natural Resources and Environment section.
Salary note: Although a salary range is listed, salary will be set commensurate with the successful candidate’s qualifications and in compliance with the Equal Pay for Equal Work Act. Salary will be paid on a biweekly basis.

This position requires:
Paralegal certificate obtained through either an American Bar Association (ABA) approved paralegal studies program or an accredited institution.
OR
Two years of work experience in a paralegal capacity which included conducting legal research, preparing drafts of legal documents, and gathering and compiling data from legal references and resources.
OR
A Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school

Necessary Competencies: Requires proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.

- Relevant State of Colorado experience in a paralegal capacity
