This position is open only to Colorado state residents.
The Real Estate Unit in the Revenue & Regulatory Law Section represents the Colorado Division of Real Estate and the regulatory programs it administers and other programs within the R&R Section, including a few independent agencies within the judicial department. Our primary work promotes consumer protection through regulating, licensing, and taking disciplinary action against licensed real estate professionals and enforcing unlicensed practice.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
The purpose of the position is to provide legal assistant support services to the legal professionals in the Real Estate Unit, and to support the other RR paralegals and attorneys as needed.
Duties include, but are not limited to:

Prepare and file legal documents for administrative and civil proceedings, including prehearing statements, motions, and subpoenas, in coordination with attorneys.

Manage case files and litigation calendars by entering data into case management systems, tracking deadlines, and organizing case materials for hearings and trials.

Support administrative hearings and trials, including preparing exhibits, coordinating witness appearances, and attending proceedings to assist with logistics and documentation.

Conduct legal research to support case strategy, draft briefs, and compile relevant case law and statutes.

Coordinate discovery processes, including reviewing voluminous documents, identifying privileged information, and preparing or managing document productions.

Liaise with clients, witnesses, and opposing counsel, maintaining professional communication and ensuring timely follow-up on case needs and requests.

Summarize evidence and draft legal correspondence, creating digestible materials such as timelines, chronologies, and document summaries to support case development.

Assist with agenda and public meeting preparation, gathering items, drafting materials, and tracking follow-ups for internal team meetings and client coordination.
This recruitment may be used to fill other Paralegal positions in the Revenue & Regulatory Law section.
Salary note: Although a salary range is listed, salary will be set commensurate with the successful candidate’s qualifications and in compliance with the Equal Pay for Equal Work Act. Salary will be paid on a biweekly basis.
Appointment to Legal Assistant I or Legal Assistant II will depend based on the final candidate’s qualifications. Below are the ranges for each classification:
Legal Assistant I: $57,708 – $78,060
Legal Assistant II: $70,140 – $86,400

For this position, we are open to either Legal Assistant I or Legal Assistant II candidates. Appointment will depend on the finalist’s qualifications.
Minimum Qualifications: Please document all relevant experience in detail on your application. Experience will not be inferred or assumed. Any part-time experience listed will be prorated.
Legal Assistant I
Paralegal certificate obtained through either an American Bar Association (ABA) approved paralegal studies program or an accredited institution.
OR
Two years of work experience in a paralegal capacity which included conducting legal research, preparing drafts of legal documents, and gathering and compiling data from legal references and resources.
Legal Assistant II
Paralegal certificate obtained through either an American Bar Association (ABA) approved paralegal studies program or an accredited institution AND one year of paralegal experience.
OR
Three years of work experience in a paralegal capacity which included conducting legal research, preparing drafts of legal documents, and gathering and compiling data from legal references and resources.
Required Competencies:
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.
Preferred Qualifications: In addition to the minimum qualifications, the preferred applicant will demonstrate some or all of the qualifications below:
- Strong case management skills
- Strong critical thinking skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience providing support to multiple team members
In addition, the preferred Legal Assistant II candidates will demonstrate some or all of the qualifications below:
- Ability to conduct thorough legal research to advance case strategy
- Substantial trial experience, including experience working with witnesses
- Strong litigation skills, including criminal, civil, or administrative litigation.
- Experience with Civil Law and a thorough understanding of civil rules of procedure
- Experience independently drafting pleadings for review
