Attorney General Phil Weiser joins Metropolitan State University Denver in showing support of DACA recipients

Nov. 12, 2019 (DENVER, Colo.) — Today, while the U.S. Supreme Court was hearing arguments on whether the federal government could dismantle the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, Attorney General Phil Weiser met with DACA recipients at Metropolitan State University Denver to show his support of them and their pursuit of life in the United States.

“My mom came to the United States as an immigrant after fleeing religious persecution. As Attorney General, I am proud to defend our DREAMers and their right to live in the only country they’ve ever known as home. The thousands of DREAMers living in Colorado contribute to our economy, share their talent and work hard to live in this state. They deserve to have their legal right to be here protected,” said Weiser.

The Colorado Attorney General’s Office has partnered with a coalition of 21 Attorneys General to fight the administration’s attempt to dismantle the DACA program.

Dr. Michael Benitez, MSU vice president of Diversity and Inclusion, also spoke at the event, as well as Jeff Wasden, president of the Colorado Business Roundtable; Jena Griswold, Colorado Secretary of State; and DACA recipients.

For DREAMers like MSU Denver Campus Advisor Fryda Faugier Ferreira, the loss of their status as a DREAMer could mean life as they know it will forever change.
