AG Weiser statement on court rulings regarding access to the abortion medication drug mifepristone

April 7, 2023 (DENVER)–Attorney General Phil Weiser released the following statement regarding two federal court rulings issued today on access to the medication abortion drug mifepristone:

“It is outrageous that one judge in Texas would suspend the FDA’s approval of mifepristone, which has been used safely and effectively for more than 20 years for abortion care and to treat miscarriages. This is a continuing attack on the freedom for people to make their own decisions about their reproductive healthcare. That is why Colorado filed a court brief in the Texas case defending the FDA’s original approval of mifepristone, and why we joined another lawsuit in the state of Washington to bar the FDA from doing anything to reduce the availability of mifepristone in 17 states and the District of Columbia.

“Today, a federal judge in Washington preserved access to mifepristone in the states that sued, including Colorado. The bottom line of that decision is that mifepristone will remain available in Colorado while our case moves forward. Attacks on reproductive freedom will continue, and we will be vigilant in the fight for the right to access mifepristone and safe and legal abortion care in Colorado.”
