Statement from Attorney General Phil Weiser on SCOTUS ruling preserving access to mifepristone

April 21, 2023 (DENVER)—Attorney General Phil Weiser released the following statement regarding today’s U.S. Supreme Court ruling upholding access of the abortion drug mifepristone:

“I’m pleased the U.S. Supreme Court blocked lower court rulings that undermined critical access to reproductive healthcare and that mifepristone will continue to be available throughout the country during the course of this litigation. This is the right decision for women’s health and the rule of law. The uncertainty created by this litigation has already caused considerable anxiety and it’s important that the Court cleared up any confusion about the legal status of the drug in the country.

“In the 2022 Dobbs decision overruling Roe v. Wade, the U.S. Supreme Court explained to the American people that it was returning the authority to restrict abortion to the States and their elected representatives. Coloradans, at the ballot box and through our elected representatives, have resoundingly affirmed that we want reproductive freedom and safe and legal abortion care. The painful fact remains that Dobbs opened the door to mischief and to creating chaos about a woman’s right to make her own decisions about her healthcare. Make no mistake, we will continue to fight attacks on reproductive healthcare.”
