The Colorado Department of Law provides free violence prevention trainings and resources designed to help communities identify risk, intervene early, and improve public safety outcomes.
Training topics include Colorado’s Extreme Risk Protection Order (ERPO) law, the Domestic Violence Lethality Assessment Protocol (LAP), and Behavioral Threat Assessment and Management (BTAM). Trainings are tailored for specific audiences so participants receive practical, role-specific guidance they can apply in real-world settings.
Trainings for educators
Designed for K–12 and higher education professionals, these primarily virtual trainings explore how ERPOs and related prevention tools can support safer schools and campuses. Sessions focus on recognizing warning signs, understanding available interventions, and coordinating appropriate responses.
Trainings for law enforcement
Primarily offered in person, these trainings cover ERPO implementation, LAP, and BTAM with an emphasis on field application, legal standards, investigative considerations, and collaboration with courts and community partners.
Training for family and community members
This virtual ERPO informational webinar helps members of the public understand when an ERPO may be appropriate for a family member or loved one and explains the petitioning process, available resources, and key considerations under Colorado law.
