Attorney General Phil Weiser partners with Responsibility.org to prevent underage drinking during Alcohol Responsibility Month
April 10, 2023 (DENVER) – April is Alcohol Responsibility Month, and this year Attorney General Phil Weiser is partnering with Responsibility.org to share a public service announcement encouraging parents and caregivers to talk to their kids about alcohol to prevent underage drinking. Weiser says these conversations are an important step in keeping underage drinking levels down.
“Underage drinking is not only dangerous and harmful to kids’ developing brains and bodies, but it’s also illegal,” said Weiser. “I encourage all families to have conversations early and often about the risks of underage drinking, because parents can influence their kids’ decisions, even if it’s not clear that kids are listening.”
In the PSA, Weiser also emphasizes the importance of encouraging kids to say “YES” to a healthy lifestyle and “NO” to all risky behaviors such as underage cannabis use, too.
“This Alcohol Responsibility Month, and as we continue our mission to eliminate underage drinking, we want to remind parents how important it is to talk to kids. Our underage drinking prevention program, Ask, Listen, Learn: Kids and Alcohol Don’t Mix, blends brain science and refusal strategies to help keep kids safe and substance-free,” said Chris Swonger, President and CEO of Responsibility.org. “We have come so far together, but our work is not yet done. We want to continue to keep these statistics moving in the right direction.”
The PSA is viewable on YouTube and will be shared statewide throughout the month of April.
