Colorado Attorney General’s Office announces natural resources fellowship in honor of former Colorado Supreme Court Justice Gregory Hobbs

Dec. 2, 2022 – Attorney General Phil Weiser today dedicated a natural resources and environment fellowship at the Colorado Department of Law in honor of former Colorado Supreme Court Justice Gregory Hobbs.

Hobbs, who died one year ago, also previously worked as an air lawyer at the department.

“Gregory Hobbs was a dedicated public servant, water and natural resources expert, and jurist, and Colorado was lucky to have him,” Weiser said. “I am proud to announce this fellowship in his honor, which will help foster new lawyers in natural resources and environmental law.”

The Gregory J. Hobbs, Jr. Natural Resources and Environment Fellowship provides recent law graduates from any U.S. law school with the opportunity to spend a year obtaining a hands-on, mentored legal experience in natural resources and environmental law.

The Hobbs fellow will spend a year embedded in the Natural Resources and Environment Division in the department, which represents a variety of clients including the Colorado Department of Natural Resources, the environmental divisions within the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, the Governor’s Energy Office, and the Colorado Natural Resources Trustees.

The fellow will work on a variety of issues, which could include the practice of Colorado water law, representing clients who serve Colorado in water and air quality work, addressing clean energy and climate change, assisting the state as it establishes its environmental justice framework, assisting in the regulation of mining and oil and gas, learning about hazardous and solid waste and CERCLA, and working on matters pertaining to Colorado’s wildlife and public and trust lands.

Learn more here about the department’s fellowship application process, timeline, pay, and benefits.
