Attorney General Phil Weiser encouraged by progress made in $4.25 billion national opioid settlement agreement with Teva Pharmaceuticals

July 26, 2022 (DENVER)—Attorney General Phil Weiser today released the following statement regarding progress toward a $4.25 billion nationwide opioid agreement framework with Teva Pharmaceuticals:

“I am encouraged by the progress that state attorneys general have made in talks with Teva Pharmaceuticals and I look forward to reviewing the $4.25 billion opioid agreement framework announced today. While many specific details must be finalized, this settlement can provide much-needed additional resources to combat the opioid crisis in Colorado, which has only grown more dire. This agreement can build upon the momentum and existing structures that we have created through the previous opioid settlements to support our communities in doing important work in treatment, recovery, and education and prevention.”

To date, the Colorado Attorney General’s Office has secured:

  • $385 million dollars from Johnson & Johnson and three of the nation’s largest drug distribution companies
  • $10 million from McKinsey & Company
