This training is designed for family and community members who are concerned that a loved one may be at risk of harming themselves or others. The training explains ERPOs in plain language and provides practical guidance on recognizing escalating safety concerns, understanding the ERPO process, and identifying appropriate next steps.
The training is intended primarily for family and household members who are eligible to petition for an ERPO. It may also be helpful for community members who are concerned about someone’s risk of harm to self or others and may wish to request that law enforcement seek an ERPO.
Under Colorado law, eligible family and household member petitioners include:
- Parents, stepparents, co-parents, and legal guardians
- Children and stepchildren
- Siblings
- Grandparents and grandchildren
- Current or former romantic or domestic partners
- Individuals who currently live with the respondent, or who have lived with the respondent within the past six months
